Assistant Professor - Bioengineering - Mechanobiology
About the Opportunity
The Department of Bioengineering seeks applications for a position at the Assistant Professor level from interdisciplinary faculty candidates with research interests focused on Mechanobiology.
Appointments will be primarily in the College of Engineering within the Department of Bioengineering. The University and the College of Engineering are in the midst of a significant, multi-year expansion in size and scope, including faculty, facilities, and programs within several disciplines and across disciplinary boundaries.
The Bioengineering Department has extensive expertise in Mechanobiology, and the University has made significant investments in this area with the establishment of the new Institute for Mechanobiology. We are seeking a candidate who will strengthen our expertise in Mechanobiology by working collaboratively with current faculty at the Department and the Institute and building a nationally recognizable research program. Applicants should articulate how their mechanobiology-themed research could advance fundamental and translational aspects. Successful applications will clearly demonstrate how their proposed research and educational goals can translate into tangible benefits for public health, technology development, or other societal needs. Areas of research that would be of interest include (but are not limited to) mechanobiology of aging, immuno-mechanobiology, and biomaterial-mechanobiology. Mechanobiology research in the Bioengineering Department interconnects closely with other focused areas within the Department: synthetic biology, diagnostic imaging and computational biology, and cell/molecular engineering. Mechanobiology is a foundational science to medicine and health, one of the three pillars of research at Northeastern University.
We encourage applicants from a wide range of backgrounds, including academia and industry.

This Assistant Professor position will be responsible for: teaching courses at the graduate and undergraduate level; developing independent research programs that attract external funding; advising, mentoring, and overseeing the work of students and postdocs in their area of research; and participating in service to the department, university, and to the discipline. Candidates are encouraged to collaborate with other departments and colleges across the university on interdisciplinary research.
