Job Description
Nuclear Engineering in the Tickle College of Engineering located on the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) campus, is seeking a Program Manager for a new consortium project. Responsibilities
The U.S. Department of Energy has recently announced a $20 million, 4 year grant to the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) to lead a multi-institution collaborative on advanced materials for extreme environments involving 8 universities, two national laboratories and 5 industry partners/advisory board members. This position serves as project manager for this Collaborative and will be located within the UTK Department of Nuclear Engineering, reporting to the overall Principal Investigator. The Collaborative manager will ensure the quality implementation and execution of the project, including providing strategic guidance to Collaborative personnel, overseeing Collaborative communications, budget management, performance management, and managing relationships with external stakeholders and partners.

Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, Management or a field related to the position duties.
  • Four or more years of experience in an environment with stringent rules and regulations, protocols and procedures for budget, account, and fund management as well as personnel management.
  • Advanced knowledge of financial analysis and reporting techniques and human resource policies and procedures for staff and academic employees.
  • Knowledge of a variety of administrative and operational activities such as project management, event planning, fundraising, risk management, website design, accounting and payroll, and contracts and grants regulations and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of common computer application programs, including demonstrated advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office.

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, including verbal and written, active listening, critical thinking, attention to detail, persuasiveness, managerial, advising, mentoring, and counseling skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Software skills that can improve communication and efficiency.
  • Strong planning, analysis, customer service, and problem solving skills.
  • The ability to work well under pressure and consistently achieve deadlines.
  • Demonstrated self-starter possessing the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Possess strong leadership qualities with the ability to lead and manage others.
  • The ability to learn new software tools and incorporate them into program operations.
  • Ability to quickly learn and apply applicable federal, state, local, sponsor, and institutional regulations, policies, and guidelines.
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
  • Ability to apply sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns.

Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Master's degree in Engineering, Business, Management or a field related to the position duties.
  • Previous experience managing federal sponsored projects.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Advanced knowledge of university rules and regulations, protocols and procedures for budget, account, and fund management as well as personnel management.
  • Knowledge of university-specific computer application programs.
  • Working knowledge of applicable federal, state, local, sponsor, and institutional regulations, policies, and guidelines.
